Porec was under many rulers such as: Romans, Byzantines, Slavs, Avars, French, Venetians, Austrian-Hungarian, Italian, Yugoslavic... It has been inhabitated since Prehistory. During the Byzantines, very important cultural monument was built, Basilica of Eufrazije, in 5th century.
In the 7th century Croats inhabitated Porec. Porec was under Venetia from 1267. Porec got many beautiful buildings and palaces in that time. From 1815. Porec was capital town of Istria, till the end of the World War I. In the beginning of the 20th century, Porec was developing in culture, economy, agriculture and tourism.
